Use a chart only when it makes the decision easier to understand
Choose the chart
- Trend over time → line chart
- Peer comparison → sorted bar chart
- Downside / base / upside → clustered columns or compact table
- Exact small set of values → table instead of chart
Chart checks
- Use verified data and consistent periods.
- Show the unit in the title or axis.
- Use one colour for the main company and neutral colours for context.
- Remove decorative gradients and heavy borders.
- Add a Source ID below the chart when placed in the Portfolio.
